The past few days I have been craving for an orange and chocolate bar, particularly after lunch (great afternoon snack). The mix of chocolate and orange works really well together, so I tried to replicate this for a recent marble cake bake and the result was AMAZING!

Ingredients:

200g unsalted butter, room temperature
200g golden caster sugar
3 large eggs
200g self-raising flour, sifted
1 tsp baking powder
1 large orange, juice and zest
40g cocoa powder, sifted
100g dark chocolate, broken into pieces
35g unsalted butter

Method:

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees/Gas mark 5. Grease and line a loaf tin with grease-proof paper. Beat together the butter and sugar with an electric hand whisk. Add one egg at a time, mix well until combined. Fold the flour, baking powder, orange zest and juice in to the mixture. Pour half the mixture into a piping bag and put to one side. Fold the cocoa powder into the remaining mixture and then pour into a another piping bag. Pipe the mixture alternately into the tin. Chuck the tin into the oven and bake for 50 minutes until center is cooked through. Remove cake from the tin and leave it to cool on a wire. To make the dark chocolate topping, melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Once melted, leave it to cool slightly.

Drizzle the chocolate mixture over the cake and leave it to set. Once fully set, I recommend that you eat it straightaway as it’s irresistibly tasty!
